Wal-Mart pays $2 million in relation to trampling death

Last November, I speculated whether there should be liability on Wal-Mart over the death of a worker when he was crushed by a mob rushing into a store the morning of the Friday after Thanksgiving. I am not sure what has happened in terms of civil liability but apparently the state of New York thought the matter was worthy of criminal liability and now comes news that the giant retailer has agreed to pay nearly $2 million and to improve safety at its 92 New York stores as part of a deal with prosecutors to avoid criminal charges in the trampling death of that worker last year.
